On the afternoon of May 26, 2023, Susan “Sue” Irene Long, 71, passed away peacefully at her home after a long battle with cancer. Susan was born June 22, 1951, in St. Joseph, Missouri to James and Hazel West. She attended Benton High School.
In July 1971, she married Roger Long of Mound City, and together they raised two sons Ezekial “Zeke” and Bryan. Several years after Roger’s death in 2006, Sue found love again with Leland Daise. For the last twelve years, they have had many adventures together.
Sue worked most of her life in home health care. She was a member of the Wyatt Park Christian Church, the Northwest Model A Club, and the Plain Ol’ A’s car club. She loved country dancing, her sweet dog, Bella, camping, and was ready to travel anywhere.
Along with her husband Roger, Sue was also preceded in death by her parents, James and Hazel West; brothers, Jim and Marvin West, sister, Mary Rose Gray. She is survived by her children Ezekial “Zeke” (Alisha) Long; Bryan Long; grandchildren, Jillian, Bailey and Campbell Long; partner, Leland Daise and sisters, Norma (John) Brown, Alice (Joe) Coats, Joann Hall, Carol Clark and Margie Cowley.
Services will take place at Chamberlain Funeral home in Mound City, Missouri on Wednesday, May 31, 2023. Family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am, and memorial service will be held at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Mound City.
