The Kansas City Chiefs returned to St. Joseph for the final week of Chiefs Training Camp on the campus of Missouri Western State University, following their preseason opening loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday.
Penalties were a big issue for the Chiefs against the Rams. With a young unit getting time, several starters out, the Chiefs commited 12 penalties to just four by the Rams. Head Coach Andy Reid says there were a lot of good things they learned from the young players, but still a lot to clean up as well
"Obviously the five holding calls and the five illegal procedure penalties you can't have those, that discipline, you've got to be more disciplined than that," Reid tells reporters after practice. "So we go back and we keep stressing that."
Penalties were an issue for the Chiefs last season as well, committing 119 overall, up from just 94 in 2024. The biggest penalty on Saturday cost Kansas City a touchdown, as rookie Emmett Johnson rushed in for a four yard score, but it was called back after second year center Hunter Nourzad was called for holding. The Chiefs ended the drive with just a field goal, tying the game at the time 3-3.

While he had just one target in Saturday's game, third year tight end Jared Wiley made an outstanding diving grab along the sideline from rookie Garrett Nussmeier for a nine yards. It was initially called incomplete, but after Reid threw the red challenge flag, it was ruled a catch.
After spending last season working to bounce back from a torn ACL in his rookie season, Wiley says he's feeling more like himself this Training Camp.
"Where I am to where I was last year, it's a complete 180, I've been feeling pretty good" Wiley explains. "Feels good to kind of watch the film and kind of feel like myself when I was a rookie and even in college and stuff like that, it's funny we'll watch last year's preseason, or I'll go back and watch camp from last year, and I'm like God I look terrible dude, it was awful, so definitely feeling like myself again though."
Wiley suffered a torn ACL in practice on November 2nd, 2024, and was placed on injured reserve. Wiley did play in seven games that season, recording just one catch for seven yards. He spent much of last season inactive, but did play in five games, once again making just one catch for five yards.

Earlier in training camp, the Chiefs added to their defensive line, signing a former Super Bowl champion with Kansas City, adding Emmanuel Ogbah. Ogbah won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs in 2019, after being traded to Kansas City by the Cleveland Browns. Ogbah however didn't play in that Super Bowl, suffering a torn pectoral in week 10 that ended his season.
Ogbah says he always felt he would end up back with the Chiefs, having left a lot on the table.
"I just knew there was something still for me in Kansas City," Ogbah says. "You know when you have that in the back of your head, whenever there's an opportunity or you thought to come back, man that was my goal and I'm glad we were able to make it work."
Ogbah spent time with the Miami Dolphins and played last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, falling in the AFC Wildcard game narrowly to the Buffalo Bills. He joins a room with young talent, inlcuding rookie R Mason Thomas and second year pass rusher Ashton Gillotte.
The Chiefs were back in pads today, practicing for just over two hours. Mansoor Delane was out of the gold non contact jersey for the first time in full pads. The Chiefs practice again tomorrow at 9:15am. There are just three practices remaining at Missouri Western State University.
