G. Deon Jensen 1935 - 2024

G. Deon Jensen, 89, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, August 5, 2024.

He was born July 23, 1935 in St. Joseph to George and Lora (Curd) Jensen. He grew up in St. Joseph, graduating from Central High School in 1953. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University.

Deon then embarked on a 30-year career of teaching instrumental music in the St. Joseph School District, spending 10 of those years at Benton High School. He also gave private music lessons.

He was a founding member of the St. Joseph Kicks Band, and a member of Ray Alburn’s Band, the Bill Geha Dance Band, Krug Park Bowl Municipal Band, and Platte County Community Band. He had served as president of the St. Joseph Musicians Union.

Deon married Karen Logbeck on August 1, 1987. She survives of the home.

He enjoyed books and antiques, woodworking, carving, gardening, and landscaping. He loved all of his dogs, and was known for his wicked sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Scott Jensen; and beloved dog, Harley.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Karen; children, Debbie Ruhmann (Robert), Eric Jensen (Amie), and Nanette Piercefield (Robert); the mother of his children, Carol Bressler; stepchildren, Robert Logbeck (Jennifer) and Michael Logbeck (Lesley); grandchildren, Emily, Sara, Claire, Kelsey, Grahm Ruhmann, Jordan, Garrett Jensen and Hayden Jensen; step-grandchildren, Ryan, Brett, Asher, and Nate Logbeck; and eight great-grandchildren.

Farewell Services and Public Livestream 1:00 P.M. Friday, August 16, First Lutheran Church. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service.
