Otto Francis ‘Frank’ Lassen, 83, formerly of Winthrop, MO was peacefully called to our heavenly father’s home, Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at his son’s residence in Pensacola FL, surrounded by his loving children.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 20th, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Rev. Tim Sowers officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Cummings Cemetery, Cummings, KS. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home and from 10:00 am until time of service on Saturday at the church. Frank was born on March 23, 1941, in Cummings, KS., the son of Jess and Mary (Rhodes) Lassen. He graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1958 and joined the United States Navy. Mr. Lassen served in the Navy for over 20 years aboard several carriers and served as a P-3 Orion Flight Engineer, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in August 1979. Frank then worked as the Plant Maintenance Supervisor for the Kansas State Prison in Lansing, KS for several years. He was a member of the Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church, Lillian, AL, and formerly a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on the Board of Directors, as an Elder, taught Sunday School for the middle school students for over 30 years and was a Kennedy Caller. Frank also taught Bible Studies at Vintage Park, Trinity Place, Medicalodge and Senior Village. He was a member of Kiwanis, Optimist Club, the V.F.W. Post # 1175, the Disabled American Veterans, and the Fleet Reserve Association. Frank, a devout Christian, was always eager to talk about Jesus and building a relationship with God. Frank loved family and friends, he enjoyed visiting around the kitchen table, playing cards, hunting, fishing and eating out.
He was married to Loretta J. Boatright on Aug. 11, 1984, at Trinity Lutheran Church. She survives at the home in Winthrop, MO. Additional survivors include a son John (Gracette) Lassen, Pensacola, FL, daughters Judith Lassen and Barry McCullers, Golden Valley, AZ, Leilani (Sonny) Vincent, Bailey MS, Jennifer Lassen, Pensacola, FL, a brother Don (Cindy) Lassen, Cumings, KS, sister in law Shirley Lassen, Cummings, KS, numerous nieces and nephews, eleven grandchildren and thirty one great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Jess (Mary) Lassen, brothers Elmer, Henry, Roy, and Harold Lassen.
