In October, the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce is giving area high schoolers different opportunities to explore career opportunities in our region with two different events.
The first opportunity comes on Thursday during Manufacturing Day, a national day to recognize the importance of the manufacturing industry and the highly skilled jobs available in our community. Chamber President Natalie Hawn says on the day students from around the region get the opportunity to go into the buildings and learn about manufacturing.
"So, all of the students from Hillyard Tech and different students that have an interest in manufacturing have the ability to go, they can sign up for different tours and they get to go visit different places here in town," Hawn says on the KFEQmunnity show. "Everybody from Altech, to Ventura, to Summit Truck Bodies, we have several on the list this year that we're excited to showcase."
Manufacturing Day will be held on October 1st. Later in October, students will get to explore a variety of careers during the My Success event at the Civic Arena in downtown St. Joseph. My Success welcomes thousands of students from northwest Missouri, to explore all of the careers in the region.
"I call it kind of a giant career fair, but it's really designed to show the thriving careers that we have in the region that students can look to really obtain after they graduate," Hawn explains. "Whether that's a certificate that they need, whether that's a four year or beyond, it gives them the opportunity to see oh there's scientists' jobs here, there's engineering jobs here, there's cosmetology jobs here, and what they need to be able to go into that field."
My Success will be held on October 13th and 14th. 2,000 students from 50 area schools will participate over the two days with over 70 area businesses represented.
