Larry Adart Hahn, 87, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, at Missouri University Hospital, in Columbia, MO.
Larry was born July 31, 1936 in St. Joseph, at the Methodist Hospital, to Edward and Etta (Woodward) Hahn, of Bethany, MO, where the family farm is located. He graduated from High School in Bethany, MO in 1954. He attended Diesel Mechanics School in Kansas City, MO. He worked for Caterpillar in Chillicothe, MO. He joined the National Guard in 1955 in Albany, MO. In 1956 Larry went to work for MFA (Shelter) Insurance as an adjuster. He transferred to the National Guard in St. Joseph that same year. In 1960 he went to Officers Candidate School at Ft. Benning Georgia. Larry married Donna Christina Cohrs on August 28th of 1960.
They moved to their present farm in May of 1961. Added to the family were 3 children: Susan, (Steve) Eales of Troy, MO, Tim, of the home and Chris, (Paula) of St. Joseph. Two grandchildren Brenna and Garette Eales of Troy, MO. " Adopted" daughter, Mitzi (Strand) Krause.
Larry worked for Shelter Ins, farmed and continued with the National Guard, attending many Army Schools, and raised to the rank of Lt Col. In 1981, while assigned to a post in Ft Gordon, Georgia he was asked to go on active duty, to Heidelberg, Germany at USAREUR HDQ, and 7th Army for eight months. Next Larry was assigned to Ft. Huachuca, AZ, with Donna, Tim and Chris in tow. Three years later to St Louis, and the Military Records Center, where he received promotion to full Colonel. While in St. Louis Larry received a BA degree from Columbia College. Three more years in Pittsburg, PA as an Inspector General for Guard Units in PA, and WVA.
Home again in late 1993, to retirement. He drove over the road semis for a short time, and worked for the city of St. Joseph Parks Dept. He and Donna enjoyed much traveling over the next 15 years.
What a Wonderful and Blessed life it has been. Memories galore. Some tears and lots of laughs. Now he is in heaven talking to everyone he sees. Can't get much better than that. He was a great guy and much loved.
