Lanny Earl Jones, Sr. 1941 - 2024

Lanny Earl Jones Sr. passed away at the age of 83 on September 25, 2024 at Oregon Care Center, Oregon MO. Lanny was born on April 20, 1941 in St Joseph, MO to the late Earl Albert Jones and Peggy James Jones.

On December 14,1959, he married the former Joyce Pixler. They were married in Georgia and had been married for 64 years at the time of his passing. He graduated from Lafayette High School in 1959. He joined the Army after high school and served 9 years. During his time in the Army, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Expert Badge w/ Rifle Bar. He was stationed in Germany, Korea, and Texas. He moved his family back to St Joseph and continued his Army career by working at the Military Enlistment Processing Station in Kansas City, MO as a recruiter and career counselor. On December 11, 1967, he was in a car accident that left him disabled as a paraplegic.

In his younger years he was an avid golfer.  He won numerous Junior City Championships and the Caddy Tournament. He also played golf in the Army with high ranking officers.             

He enjoyed watching sports on TV and working in his yard.

Lanny is survived by his children Sheila Jones, Vicki and Gene Bradley, Lanny Jr and Michelle Jones. 

Grandchildren Natalie and Jarod Pharis, Lindsay and Chris Lewis, Gunnar Davies, Kyle and Katie Bradley, Matthew Bradley and Shanda Pankau, Allyson and Ryne McNeely, David and Katie Jones, Kristin Jones and Rob Keegan, Brian Jones, and Sara Jones and Regan Butts.

Great Grandchildren Liam Pharis, Riley Roberts, Bristol Bradley, Carter Jackson, Cole Bradley, Graham McNeely, Oliver McNeely, Bennett Jones, Olivia Jones, Avery Keegan, Emma Keegan, Owen Keegan, and Drake Flanders.

He was proceeded in death by his brother Garry Jones and granddaughter Molly Davies.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Disabled Veterans or the USO. 

Funeral service is Monday September 30, 2024 at 6:00 PM at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel in St. Joseph, MO. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.
