Huey “George” Stevens, 76, passed away Sunday, 30 July 2023 at Heritage Gardens Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Oskaloosa, KS.

George was born to Huey and Geraldine Stevens on 26 December 1946 in Leavenworth. As a child George had many hobbies, model airplanes, fishing, hunting, making his own ammo.

As soon as he was old enough he worked. Mostly pumping gas at many service stations throughout the city. He saved his money to buy motorcycles, then cars. He did this while attending Leavenworth Public Schools, graduating from Leavenworth High in 1965.

George served in the USAF from 1966 to 1969. He was assigned to RAF Lakenheath, England for the majority of his service time. He enjoyed traveling to different countries, sightseeing and buying souvenirs.

After the service he returned to Leavenworth and worked at the Leavenworth Water Plant for several years. An opening at the Liberty, MO Water Plant was available and George was hired, he worked there for 20 years. During this time he was buying/selling motorcycles and old cars. Along the way he bought his pride and joy a 1938 Buick Special. This vehicle was used in weddings and parades.

George also played competitive pool, he claimed not to be very good but his trophies disagreed with him.

George would see someone stopped on the side of the road and he would help, expecting nothing in return. He felt good knowing he could help them.

George was preceded in death by his grandmother Mary Benton, parents, step-father aka dad William Wright, brothers Mark and Jeff Wright.

George is survived by a sister Pamela Wright of Leavenworth and several nieces and nephews.

Private family services will be held.
