The St. Joseph School District will continue to require the wearing of face masks within its buildings for the rest of the school year.

The district made that announcement Thursday - just days after the St. Joseph City council decided to lift the mask mandate that had been in place since September.

The mandate was lifted as of 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, though many local establishments are still asking patrons to wear masks and observe social distancing.

The school district exercises jurisdiction over its buildings and has separately enforced a mask mandate its for students and staff for the current school year.

Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri State's campuses have also kept their mask mandates in place, as Maryville also lifted its mask mandate this week as well.
