American farmers are receiving a shrinking share of what consumers spend at the grocery store. According to an American Farm Bureau Federation analysis, consumers paid seven percent more for beef while cattle producers received prices that were ten percent lower. The disparity reflects rising costs for processing, transportation, packaging and retail operations. USDA figures show farmers received just 5.8 cents of every dollar spent on domestically produced food in 2024.
