Paul Anthony Nugent, 78, of Gladstone, MO passed away January 12, 2026.
He was born on August 24, 1947, to Donald Earl and Mary Elizabeth (Adamson) Nugent in Kansas City, MO. Paul grew up in Kansas City, MO and was an Eagle Scout. He graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1965 where he participated in football and wrestling. He then served his country in the United States Army with the 82nd and the 101st Airborne during the Vietnam War from 1965-1968 where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star along with several other achievements. After his honorable discharge he continued in the Army Reserves for many years. Paul later received his bachelors and master’s in law enforcement from UCM in Warrensburg, MO.
Paul was united in marriage to Stephanie Sterling on March 17, 1968. After their marriage they moved to Washington DC where Paul joined the police force and was a police officer. In 1970 they returned to Kansas City area where he served with the Kansas City Police Force until 1973. Paul then began his career in sales working for several companies and retired in 2014.
He was a past member of the First United Methodist Church of North Kansas City and a current member of the North Cross United Methodist in Kansas City. Paul coached many little league sports teams, was a Boy Scout Leader and was a mentor to many. Most of all Paul loved following his grandson’s sporting activities. He was great husband, father, papa, great-granddad, brother and friend.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dean Nugent.
He is survived by his wife Stephanie Nugent; his children Todd (Renee) Nugent, Brett (Jenny) Nugent and Kimmi (Randy) Thomas; grandchildren Tyler (Shallie) Alex, Carter (Karleigh) Dalton, Cooper, Preston, Carson and Hudson; bonus grandkids Sierra (Vanessa), Jalen and Sidney (Daven); great-grandkids Ava and Emme; bonus great-grandkids Carsyn and Kase; his sister Shelley (Jimmy) Claudin; his half sister Debbie (Richard) Reynolds; other relatives and many friends.
Graveside Services: 12:30 p.m. Wednesday January 21st at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS. Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 21st at Smithville American Legion. Donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
