St. Joseph city councilmembers have extended the city mask mandate.

The city council, during its Monday meeting, voted unanimously to extend the requirement that masks be worn indoors for 90 days. Shoppers must wear masks and masks must be worn in businesses, unless social distancing of at least six feet can be maintained between employees and customers.

St. Joseph health officials report four additional coronavirus-related deaths as well as a continued surge in new COVID-19 cases.

Officials say two women in their 50’s, a woman in her 80’s, and a man in his 80’s all with underlying health conditions died from COVID-19.

Buchanan County also recorded 133 new COVID-19 cases on Monday to go with 38 on Saturday and 46 on Sunday, bringing the county total since the pandemic began to 5,148.

Mosaic Life Care reports it is treating 74 COVID-19 patients at its St. Joseph hospital; six in Maryville and three in Albany.

Mosaic has now tested 47,225 area residents with 4,993 testing positive.
