Ivan Eugene Courtney, Sr., 86, of St. Joseph passed away on Thursday, June 06, 2024 at his residence.
He was born on March 22, 1938 in Milan, Mo, to the late Harvey and Mable (Bush) Courtney.
Ivan attended Lafayette High School in St. Joseph and later served his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps Reserves.
He married Evelyn C. Phillips on May 28, 1956 in St. Joseph, Mo. She preceded him in death in 2016 after celebrating 60 years of marriage.
In his younger years, Ivan had passions for riding motorcycles, working with his hands building things, flying remote control airplanes and fishing.
Ivan spent a 30 year career as an Iron Worker with Union Local #10. After his retirement, he became a Baptist Pastor at the Immanuel Baptist Church. He was a faithful donor to the Wounded Warriors, Noyes Home for Children and the St. Jude's and Shriner's Hospitals.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Courtney was preceded in death by son; Ivan E. Courtney, Jr., and daughter; Rhonda C. Courtney-Perks.
Mr. Courtney is survived by his son; Mark A. (Rebecca) Courtney, and daughter; Deanna K. Courtney, and several grandchildren.
The family visitation 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM on Wednesday, June 12th at the Heaton~Bowman~Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel The Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday also at the our chapel. Interment; Ashland Cemetery.
