David “Dave” Arthur Hunn left this world early in the afternoon of May 23, 2025. He entered it on March 16, 1962. The time spent between these two dates was filled with great memories and adventures all around the globe.
Dave was the son of Paul John and Marilyn Ann (Davison) Hunn. His childhood years were spent with his brothers Brian, Bob, and Geoff and his sister, Nancy, at his family’s business, Uptown Motors in Muscatine, Iowa. His father had started the business just two years before he was born. All sorts of stories were happily recounted growing up around the car lot and shop – which started his lifelong love for all things cars. From having his own shop for years in Rushville, Missouri to collecting anything and everything Corvette, Dave was mechanical through and through. He was a machinist, an innovator, quick-witted, sharp-tongued, honest, and bold. He was willing to tell you like it was, but at the same time he was exceptionally giving and kind. Family meant the world to him – and anyone who knew him well knew this was true. Family, too, was far more to Dave than those defined as his own blood. Dave’s family was his siblings, friends, children, grandchildren, and the Third Herd B 3/61.
Sgt. Hunn, as the guys knew him, served in the United States Army from 1979 to 1986. So many stories have been told from those days with the Third Herd in Germany, before returning home to the United States.
Dave is survived by his other half and best friend in life, Jean Lewis. He told almost everyone he met of how he proposed to his love – doing one hundred twenty miles per hour, top down on the Corvette, with a million stars twinkling overhead. That was Dave – live fast and love hard. With Jean came two kids as well as grandkids who all dished out as much mischief and torment to Dave as he could pass back on to them: Kassi, Racheal (Larry), Cali, Meisha, and Inara. From his previous marriage, Dave also had two other children, Teri and Andrew. Though he had not had the opportunity to meet, he had also been blessed by a beautiful granddaughter. Brothers Brian (Dawn), Robert (Cheryl), and Geoffrey (Mary), sister, Nancy, as well as countless nieces, nephews, and cousins are left behind to hold his memories dear.
In the great beyond, he joins some wonderful and interesting characters. With some reunions, there were guaranteed to be shenanigans. Both of his parents, his infant brother, Michael, as well as so many others were there waiting to meet him.
Dave has been cremated under the care of Hixson-Klein Funeral Home of Gower, Missouri. The family will have a celebration of life on June 21, 2025 at 2pm in Darlington, Missouri. The service will be held on Centre Street. Immediately following will be an ice cream social – as ice cream was one of Dave’s favorite treats. All are welcome to attend.
Donations towards his final expenses may be made in care of Jean Lewis, 209 Mill Street, Darlington, MO 64438. In lieu of flowers, please consider bringing your favorite memories to share as well as favorite ice cream toppings.
