Alton “Bud” Wood, 88, Easton, Missouri, passed away Monday, September 8, 2025.

Born February 26, 1937 in Emporia, Kansas. His mother was deceased in 1939. He was adopted by Olza and Almeda Dragoo in 1941. He lived in Albany, Missouri in 1941 until 1954 when he joined the Army. He was stationed in Fort Riley, Kansas. He served 16 months in South Korea.

He married Betty (Oehring) in 1957. He received an honorable discharge in 1958. He lived in Albany until he and his family moved to St. Joseph in 1963. He was employed at Swafford Motor Co. He was an active member of the Custom Car Club in 1963. He was also employed at Sanders V.W. He was involved in drag racing and Motorcycle trials and enduros. He and his son Toney were involved in stock car racing in the 80’s. Bud and his wife owned and operated Herrington Auto Service, So 9th St. 1971-1982. Owned and operated W & W Auto Parts 729 So 9th (With son Toney) 1981-1986. Owned Bud’s Autom. Machine Shop in 1986 until sold in 1994 when he retired.

Surviving, son Toney Wood, Springfield, MO., daughters Tina Alterman, Shawnee, Kansas and Tammy Wood, Springfield, MO. And 5 granddaughters, 2 great-grandsons and 4 great-granddaughters.

Preceded in death by Stepparents, Olza and Almeda Dragoo and Mother Madelyn Wood.

Farewell Services and Public Livestream 1:00 P.M. Friday, September 19, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, September 18, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
