A cattle truck overturned on Interstate 29 in St. Joseph late Sunday night, injuring some cattle so severely they had to be euthanized at the scene. Other cattle were rounded up, while still others broke free and are roaming in St. Joseph subdivisions.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the semi tractor-trailer carrying 78 head of cattle crashed after 11 o’clock. The wreck as well as cattle roaming free on the interstate shut down I-29 until about 4:30 Monday morning.

Other accidents occurred as drivers came up on the crash, according to St. Joseph police, but none of them caused injuries, at least not serious enough injuries to require hospitalization.

Reports of cattle in various St. Joseph subdivisions have been received by the St. Joseph Police Department.

One Nixel alert put out by St. Joseph police stated, “Use caution all around town, cows are running all over.”
