Carey L. Young, 77, Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024.
He was born on September 23, 1946, to Morris R. and Mattie G. (Bradford) Young in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Carey joined the United States Army and proudly served during the Vietnam War.
On October 1, 1966, he married Sandra Marie Helleksen. For 57 years, they shared many adventures together.
He worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 30 years, and later for Union Pacific Railroad for 11 ½ years, traveling all over the country with his family.
Carey belonged to the fellowship of the Bonner Springs Church of Christ. He was also a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Vietnam Veterans Association.
Carey was a skilled wood-worker who loved country music, the color red, and cheering for the Dallas Cowboys and Oklahoma Sooners. If his team was playing, you would hear him shouting “Boomer Sooner!”
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, James Young, and brother, James Edward Young.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra; daughters, Lauri Young, Cathy Howard (Matt) and Sarah Young; grandchildren, Matt Smith, Noah Johnson, Skyler Gonzalez and James Gonzalez; great-grandchildren, Matthew Smith and Jacob Smith; brothers, Rex Young and Dwayne Young, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
