SAVANNAH - Savannah senior and softball standout Emma Tipton signed her national letter of intent Friday to continue her softball career at Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City.
Tipton becomes the fourth player from the 2021 Savannah softball team to sign for college softball. She joins Ella Bruner, who signed to Pittsburg State, along with Taijha Davis and Kaylence Cook, who both signed to North Central Missouri College.
Tipton says that many signees this fall speaks to the strong work ethic Savannah brings each year.
"We have a lot of dedicated girls," Tipton said. "We all want to do our best all of the time. We strive for greatness. Every time we step on the field, we do our best. We just support each other. We just push each other to be the best."
Tipton helped Savannah to a 23-5 season this past fall, along with a third-place finish at state in 2019 and a runner-up finish in 2020.
As for her new team, Tipton says meeting some of the current players helped solidify her decision to commit to MCC. She also got to know head coach Autumn Hughes - a Savannah native and North Andrew alum who was just named the Wolves' head coach this past July.
"She's just a very good person," Tipton said of Hughes. "Overall, just hearing the girls on the team talk about the program made me really want to go there."
Tipton is a three-time all-district and three-time all-Midland Empire Conference selection. She can play a variety of positions, including second base and outfield.
She says the opportunity to go to MCC and play softball, as well pursue a nursing degree, would not have been possible without the support of her family.
"My family is amazing and my team is amazing," Tipton said. "My coaching is great. Everyone pushes me to be my best and they do whatever I need them to do to get me to where I want to be."
