Buchanan County Sheriff Bill Puett reports his department is investigating the death of a jail inmate who died about an hour after staff found him attempting to harm himself.
Puett, in a news release, says staff discovered 68-year-old Edward D. Carrico attempting to harm himself around 7:30 Tuesday morning. Deputies and medical staff began lifesaving measures until emergency medical personnel arrived. Lifesaving measures continued as the inmate was taken to the hospital, but the measures proved unsuccessful. Carrico died at approximately 8:25.
Carrico was charged with 2nd Degree Statutory Sodomy.
An autopsy has been ordered. The investigation continues.
