Ruth (Kuhn) Sherer Ritenour, 98, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2023.
She was born October 3, 1925 in New Point, Missouri to Clyde and Maude Kuhn.
She moved to St. Joseph in 1943. She married Raymond Sherer and had a daughter, Linda Starks. They later divorced and she married Ronald Ritenour.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Ronald; son-in-law, Ronald Starks; grandson, Jason Starks (Tracy); granddaughter, Ellen Starks; two great-granddaughters, Alexis and Katressa Starks. She is also survived by stepson Mark Ritenour (Jill); stepdaughters, Susan Byergo (Joe) and Rebecca McCorkendale; step grandchildren, Tyler (Kelly) and Trevar Ritenour, Brandon McCorkendale, Jamie and Truman Byergo, Jessica and Diane Sweete; great grandsons, Ethan and Evan Ritenour; nieces, Carolyn Barnhart, Lorie Lane (Stephen), and Nina Pulastic (Rob); and nephew, Eric Barnhart (Kasey).
In early adulthood, she was a stay-at-home mom with her daughter, Linda. She enjoyed working school and church activities with her daughters age groups.
She retired from Blue Valley Federal Savings and Loan (formerly First Federal Saving and Loan after 21 years as Vice President Branch Manager. She served on the Board of Saving and Loan Staff Leadership Conference, the Boards of Commission of Aging and Senior Citizen Foundation. She served as a member of Ambassadors and Diplomat Clubs of the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce. Ruth also served on the Allocation and Campaign Committee of the United Way, the tourism and convention committee of the Chamber. Was a member of Downton Inc., a past President of Chapter HC of the PEO and the Fort Myers Florida PEO Group and the St. Joseph PEO Reciprocity, Board member of Junior Achievement, Leadership of St. Joseph, and a member of the Runcie Club.
She was a member of First Baptist Church where she served as Director of WMU, Young Adult Sunday School teacher, Director of Young People Dept. and a Facilitator of BLT Bible Study Group.
Ruth enjoyed world traveling and had been to nearly all the states. She and her husband spent almost 20 years living in Fort Myers, Florida for six months at their winter home where she enjoyed many friends. She enjoyed holiday and family dinners as family was so important to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Maude Kuhn; daughter, Linda Starks; brothers, Charles Lee and Max; and baby sister, Geneve Belle; and stepson, Michael Ritenour.
