A sport utility vehicle hit a driveway culvert while traveling south on 169 Highway northeast of St. Joseph, went airborne, and overturned several times, killing four.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports 61-year-old Twila Obanion of St. Joseph lost control of the SUV late Thursday afternoon just north of Route E, about nine miles northeast of St. Joseph. She and three occupants were thrown from the vehicle. None were wearing seat belts.
A two-year-old in the vehicle was secured in a safety device, according to the patrol, and survived the crash.
Also killed in the crash were 81-year-old Darlene Obanion of St. Joseph, 46-year-old Dawn Sharry of St. Joseph, and 45-year-old Walker Kimberly of Union Star.
