Ernest Leroy Williams 1944 - 2024

Ernest (Bill) Williams passed away July 14th, 2024 at St. Luke’s North hospital surrounded by his family. Ernie was born in Lake City, Iowa to Bertha and James Williams.

He grew up in Lanesboro, Des Moines, and Carroll, Iowa. After graduating high school, he joined the Army. His Army career lasted for 11 years with 2 tours of Korea and 2 years in Vietnam. He was also an Army recruiter in Norfolk, Nebraska. While in Vietnam he received a letter from a young lady in Woodward, Iowa. When he came home on leave, he met this young lady who a year later would become his wife. Marjorie and Ernie were married on July 12, 1969.They just celebrated their 55 anniversary 2 days before he passed.

When he left the Army, he started a 20-year career at the U.S. penitentiary in Leavenworth, KS. He started as a guard and retired as a counselor. Ernie and Marjorie moved to Weston, MO in 1978 and still reside there. After a month of retirement, he just had to go back to work. Since he was only 51 years old. He went a whole different direction with his last job. He joined a little electronic company that repairs controls for trains, grew to become WEBTEC. He would work there for 26 years retiring in 2020.Upon retired he loved to go fishing and stock car races and going to all his granddaughters’ events.

Ernie was very active in the community. He was a cub scout leader for pack 249 for 7 years, a member of the board of the HUD housing for 5 years and a member of the Weston Lions club for 35 years serving as secretary and general chairman of the Lions Antique and Collectable show for most of those years.

Ernie will continue to help others in his death. He became a tissue donor hero thru the Midwest Transplant Network and donated his pacemaker to St. Jude’s hospital.

He is survived by his wife Marjorie, son’s Don (Melissa), James (Rosemary), granddaughters Annica and Emelyn. One sister Janet of Humeston, IA. Celebration of his life will be July 28 at the Vaughn funeral home in Weston, MO. Visitation at 2:00 with services at 3:00.
