A 55-year-old Fairfax man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of a 72-year-old Fairfax man Monday morning.

Atchison County this morning filed a second-degree murder charge against James D. Bradbury in the shooting death of William M. Hull.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the Atchison County Sheriff’s Department responded to a shooting call around 9:30 Monday morning at 611 Pine Street. Deputies arrived on scene to discover one person had been shot and a suspect had retreated into an apartment building. Negotiators were called to the scene, but Bradbury came out of the apartment building and surrendered to officers a little more than an hour after the shooting.

Hull was taken to Fairfax Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation continues. The Atchison County Sheriff’s Department requested the Missouri State Highway Patrol conduct the investigation. The patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control has been assigned to investigate.
