Micheal “Mike” Bryan Guthals, age 76, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025 surrounded by his family.
He was born in Clovis, New Mexico, graduated from Central High School in St Joseph, and has a Bachelor Degree in Education from MWSU. Mike dedicated more than 25 years of his life to serving others through his work with The Department of Family Services from 1976 to 2002.Outside of work, he was a man full of heart and humor - a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend who lived life to the fullest.
He loved his family deeply, found strength in his church, and enjoyed the great outdoors through hunting and fishing. A true “hippie” at heart, Mike’s love for music was a constant rhythm throughout his life - the soundtrack to his adventures, laughter, and memories shared with those he loved most.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Carol Guthals; his brother, Doug (Katie) Guthals; his sister, Jody Creighton; 4 children, Derek Guthals, Karla Walters (Ed), David Smith (Kim), and Amy Stafford. He was also a cherished grandfather to Cody Guthals, Michael Smith, Kayla Guthals, Casey Guthals, Patrick Smith, Lauren Herr, Jake Stafford, Kaleigh Walters, Jenna Walters, and Zane Smith, along with Great Grandchildren, Watson Guthals, Weston Smith, and Lennon Herr.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Doris Guthals, his brother, Daryl Guthals, lifelong friend, Mike Datillo, and his loyal dog Trixie Girl.
Family and Friends will be received to Celebrate Mike's life from 12:00 -1:00 p.m. on Saturday October 25, 2025 at Clair United Methodist Church, with a lunch to follow for anyone who would like to stay and celebrate Mike’s journey.
Mike’s life was filled with love, laughter, and song - and his spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Voices of Courage.
