Police capture Kansas man wanted for fentanyl possession

ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect wanted on a warrant for alleged drug possession.

Shortly after midnight on Saturday morning an officer on patrol observed 59-year-old Maurice Burnett, who was wanted on a District Court warrant, in the 600 Block South 6th street in Atchison, according to Police Chief Mike  Wilson.

Burnett was taken into custody on the warrant related to a May 31, case when Burnett was found to be in possession of fentanyl in the 400 block Santa Fe. During  the warrant arrest Burnett was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and marijuana, according to Wilson.

Burnett was also subsequently charged with a theft case that occurred at Walmart on Friday and for fleeing and eluding police officers who had attempted to stop a vehicle Burnett was driving after he left Walmart.
