Man dead after UTV strikes a deer, pickup

HOLT COUNTY—One person died in an accident just before 6p.m. Friday in Holt County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2020 Polaris Ranger driven by a 66-year-old man from Mount Pleasant, Iowa, was northbound on U.S. 159 four and one half miles northeast of Fortescue.

The UTV struck a deer. After impact the UTV crossed into southbound lanes and struck a 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz driven by a 51-year-old woman from Omaha.

The driver of the UTV was pronounced dead at the scene. Atchison-Holt ambulance transported a 35-year-old Huxley, Iowa man, who was a passenger on the UTV to    Community Medical Center in Falls City. He was later transferred by Life Flight to Brian West Memorial in Lincoln. The driver of the Hyundai was not injured.
