
Kathy Jo Schmid, 72, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2023.
She
was born May 26, 1950, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of John M. and
Joann C. (Owen) Dunigan. She was a 1968 graduate of Highland Park High
School and received her Bachelor's Degree in Organizational Management
and Leadership with Honors from Friends University.
Kathy was
employed by Josten’s American Yearbook, where she met her husband,
Jerry. She later worked for Kansas Department of Health and Environment,
Kansas Department of Transportation, Juvenile Justice Authority and
most recently for Newcomer Funeral Service Group, until retiring.
She
was an active member Highland Park Assembly of God, First Assembly of
God and later Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene supporting her
husband Pastor Jerry Schmid.
Kathy married Jerry Lee Schmid on
May 26, 1971, in Four Mile Congregational Church, Humboldt, Nebraska. He
survives in Topeka. Other survivors include two daughters, Rachelle
(Jeff) Frank of St. Joseph, Mo., and Brooke Sipes of Topeka; and two
grandsons, Quinton Bearce and Dawson Sipes.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Steve Dunigan.
Kathy
loved spending time with family, especially her grandsons, holidays
with family, cooking, baking, swimming, gardening, flowers and Fourth of
July was her favorite holiday. Her other love was singing gospel music
with her family and established the In His Presence Singing Trio. She
was also an avid Kansas State University and K.C. Chiefs fan.
Honoring
Kathy’s request, cremation is planned. A celebration of life ceremony
will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 5, 2023 at Wanamaker Woods Church
of the Nazarene, 3501 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, KS 66614. The family
will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church.
A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 6, 2023 at the Four Mile Cemetery, 63346 706 Road, Humboldt, NE 68376.
Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel in Topeka is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene.
