Steven Alan Meeks, 60, of Effingham, KS, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2024, surrounded by his family at University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS.

Steven was born May 28, 1964, in Atchison, KS, the son of LeDoit and Kathleen (Canter) Meeks. He was a farmer all his life, but he also enjoyed his time working for Northwest Pipe Company for thirty years where he met many lifelong friends. Steve’s love of the land started as a child digging and playing (and sometimes sleeping) in the holes that he dug. As he grew older, his love for farming, dirt-work, and the outdoors continued to grow. His greatest love was spending time with his wife, children, family, and friends. He was a hard worker who taught his children the value of a hard day’s work. In recent years, he enjoyed attending coffee clubs in the community. He was a member of the Fanning Community of Christ Church and a past board member of both the USD 377 School Board and the Atchison County Farm Bureau Board.

Steve married Karen Whetstine on October 29, 1994 at the Fanning Community of Christ Church, recently celebrating thirty years of marriage. Karen survives of the home. He is also survived by a son Wade Dale Meeks, Effingham, KS, two daughters, Madison Meeks, Effingham, KS and Matie Meeks-Dela Cruz (Angelito), Seattle, WA, and a brother, Roger (Denise) Meeks and their two children, Morgan and Barret. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at the Fanning Community of Christ Church, Fanning, KS, with Seventy Tony Martinez, High Priest Mark Twombly, and Evangelist Kathleen A. Twombly officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Highland, KS. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, on Monday, December 23, 2024 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison, KS. Memorials are suggested to Make Good Choices-Lori Scholz Memorial Fund or the Steven Meeks Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
