George Howard Thomson 65, of St Joseph, MO, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2025 surrounded by family at his home. He was born December 13, 1959 in Chicago, IL, son of the late Wanda and William Thomson. George graduated from Topeka High School, class of 1978, and later Washburn University with a degree in Business Administration and Accounting. On March 5, 1988, he married Kimberly "Kim" Patterson. He served in the United States Army from 1978 until 1982. He earned a number of medals and ribbons over his years of service. George worked at the United States Post Office for many years in Topeka, KS and St. Joseph and retired as a Supervisor. He was a music enthusiast, he especially loved Frank Zappa and asked all his family to wear concert shirts to the funeral. He also enjoyed going to concerts, collecting watches, pens, and vinyl's. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially for Striper Bass in Tennessee. George was a member of Disabled American Veterans.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, William and Richard Thomson. Survivors include: wife, Kim Thomson of the home, daughters, Nicole (Daniel) Cordonnier of Easton, MO, Lindsey Thomson of St. Joseph, Megan Thomson of St. Joseph, and son, Dr. William (Mackenzie) Thomson of Omaha, NE, siblings, Lisa (Victor) Baker of Port Orange, FL, Mark (Lisa) Thomson of Gilbert, AZ, Theresa Thomson (Bret Earwood) of Fort Worth, TX, and Connie (Dennis) Bass of Aurora, CO, grandchildren, Sebastian, Marley, Olivia, Kashtyn, Raelynn, Remi, Ryker, Cal, Ryne, and Rory, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am, Friday, October 3, 2025 at the Rupp Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:30. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Celebration of life after interment at Local 77 Union Hall at 805 S. 36th Street St. Joseph, MO 64506. Memorials are requested to the Disabled American Veterans.
