
ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating a Kansas woman on multiple allegations
Just before 3p.m. Sunday, an officer on patrol in the city of Atchison had spotted 35-year-old Heather N. Abernathy of Atchison outside a residence and knew there to be a warrant for her arrest. Abernathy ran from the officer but after a short foot pursuit she was taken into custody and taken to the County Jail.
Police had investigated an incident that had occurred shortly before on December 27, 2025 at a residence in the 800 block North 9th Street in Atchison.
A 44-year-old female reported that during a disturbance at the residence she was struck in the head with a cordless drill by Abernathy. When officers arrived at the residence Abernathy had fled the area. EMS responded to the scene and treated the victim for her injuries but she was not transported for further treatment.
Abernathy was arrested on the District Court warrant for aggravated battery. Abernathy and also a requested charge of interference with law enforcement.
