Tristan Peters hit a grand slam and had six RBI's while Miguel Vargas had a three-run home run and an RBI double during the Chicago White Sox 10-run third inning as Chicago routed the Kansas City Royals 22-1 at Rate Field.
The White Sox, who have now won five straight games against the Royals, set or tied season highs for runs, hits (23), home runs five), margin of victory (21) and runs in an inning (10 in the third). Chicago also scored its most runs since a 22-13 win at Boston on May 31st, 1970. Recently recalled Royals reliever Mitch Spence replaced opener Steven Cruz in the second inning and allowed 10 runs in 1.1 innings. In three appearances, Spence has pitched 9.1 innings and given up 22 runs and now has an 0-2 record.
The Royals scored their lone run of the game in the fourth inning when Bobby Witt Jr. scored after Michael Massey, with the bases loaded and no outs, grounded into a double play. Salavdor Perez struck out swinging to end the inning with a runner stranded at third base. Four different Kansas City players had one hit each with Josh Rojas and Isaac Collins going 1-for-3, Collins hit being a double. Jac Caglianone was also 1-for-3 with a walk, hitting a triple, while Carter Jensen was 1-for-4.
Kansas City will look for better luck tomorrow against the White Sox. Michael Wacha (5-5, 3.48 ERA, 77K's) is set to start for the Royals against Davis Martin (9-3, 3.18 ERA, 87K's) for the White Sox. First pitch is at 3:10pm, pregame will air at 2:30 on KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM).
