Marvin Wayne Ellerman, 80, of Effingham, was called home to Heaven on Sunday, November 3, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Marvin was born on August 16, 1944, at his family’s home in rural Nortonville to Albert and June (Locklin) Ellerman.
In 1974, Marvin and Sue Buddenbohm were united in marriage. They celebrated 50 years of marriage on April 6. She survives of the home.
Marvin graduated from ACCHS in 1962 and began farming. He then served in the US Air Force from 1965 to 1968. While in the USAF, he worked on the C-130 radar system and helped pioneer the training protocol for the F-111 navigation system. After his honorable discharge from the USAF, he farmed and worked until he retired from Northwest Pipe Company in 2012. Marvin was a lifelong farmer and raised many different animals including cattle, hogs, sheep, chickens, and bees. He raised and trained horses and enjoyed going on trail rides. There wasn’t much that he couldn’t build or fix. He restored tractors (mostly red but there was a lone green one in the bunch). He liked taking those tractors through parades, car shows, and on tractor cruises.
Marvin was a strong man of few words and chose what he said wisely. He was a genuine and kind man. He embodied a true, honest and hardworking provider with a fierce love for God, his family and friends. He delighted in attending his grandchildren’s school activities and spending time with his church family worshiping, fellowshipping and singing hymns.
Survivors are his children: Connie Ellerman (Travis Wright); Cheryl (Allen) Moon; Joe (Jessica) Ellerman, all of Effingham, and Lori (Lloyd) Ridgway, McLouth; his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include his siblings: Evelyn Lorenz, Atchison; LeRoy (Sally) Ellerman, Effingham; Kenny (Eileen) Ellerman, Nortonville, and Debbie (Perry) Kadous, Topeka, as well as many close friends who've become family.
Marvin was predeceased by his parents; his father-in-law and adored mother-in-law Carl and Norma Buddenbohm; his brother Phillip Ellerman; his beloved grandson John Wayne Pantle, and his adopted son Mike Ellerman.
Funeral services are at 10 am on Friday, November 8 at Muscotah United Church. Visitation with the family is from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, November 7 at the Becker Chapel in Effingham.
