The City of Saint Joseph announced a $833,000 project to remove the parking garages at 4th and Felix, by Civic Arena, and 6th and Jules.
Work is currently slated to start next Monday, May 18th, at the 4th and Felix garage, with paper notices placed on vehicles there this week.
Lanes will be temporarily closed during different parts of the process, and two-hour limits on nearby parking spots will be ignored to accommodate the work.
Per a release from the city, both garages have significant structural issues and deterioration, with parking already barred on the top of each structure for some time. To fully repair both was estimated to cost 12 million dollars.
The end goal is to remove the structuring, creating two ground-level parking lots.
