Vincent Francis Bertels, 97, of Nortonville, KS died on Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, at the Advent Health, Shawnee Mission, KS.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Sat., Nov 4th, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Church, Nortonville, KS with Fr. William Dun-Dery as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Nortonville. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm on Friday, Nov. 3rd at St. Joseph’s Church with visitation to follow until 8:30 pm. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Benedictine Sisters, or St. Joseph’s Church and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton & O’Trimble Funeral Home who is handling the arrangements.

Vincent was born on June 27, 1926, at home just east of Nortonville, KS the son of Frank W. and Theresa W. (Didde) Bertels. He attended St. Joseph’s Grade School and graduated from Nortonville High School in 1944. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Upon returning from the service, he worked for Weishaar Brothers Implement in Nortonville. He later was a partner and general manager there, working 46 years before retiring in 1993. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the VFW Post 1175, Atchison, KS, member of the Moose Lodge, Topeka, KS. Vincent had served on the Nortonville City Council, the St. Joseph Parish Board, the Board of Directors for Farmers Supply and was part owner of Valley Falls Implement.
He also farmed, cut and sold firewood, was an avid hunter and fisherman, softball coach, wood worker, and enjoyed gardening, yard work, and worked as a greeter for the St. Joseph’s Annual Fish Fry for many years. Vincent was honored by traveling on the Honor Flight to Washington, DC to visit the World War II Memorial with his brothers. Vincent dearly loved his daughters, grandchildren, and his grand dog Ziva.
He was married to Phyllis M. Noll on April 3, 1951, at Corpus Christi Church, Mooney Creek by Fr. Jack O’Connor. Mrs. Bertels survives of the home.
Additional survivors include three daughters Eileen Dray, Lawrence, KS, Darlene (William) Rogers, Lawrence, KS, and Sharon (Russell) McCort, Shawnee, KS, two brothers Eugene (Jeanne) Bertels, St. Mary’s, KS, and Richard (Ann) Bertels, Nortonville, KS, a sister Sr. Rosemary Bertels, Atchison, KS, seven grandchildren Melissa Dray, Amanda Dray, Suzanne Rogers, Matthew Rogers, Sarah (Bill) Saxton, Rachel (John) Draper, Hannah (Peter) Stolberg, and six great grandchildren Annelise, Charlotte Grace Stolberg, Will Saxton, Penelope, Daphne, and Teddy Draper.
His parents, son-in-law James Dray, sister Mary Catherine Bertels, and granddaughter Carolyn Anne Rogers preceded him in death.
