The St. Joseph Central boys basketball team has their new head coach, hiring RickyBarbosa to take the helm this season.
Barbosa has a history of building successful programs. From 2016 to 2020, he served as the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Catholic High School where he led the program to two TCIS Championship Game appearances in three seasons and captured the 2019 TCIS Tournament Championship, the school's first conference tournament title in 24 years. During his four-year tenure, more than 20 players went on to play college basketball, the most in school history.
Prior to leading the varsity program, he served as Catholic High School's JV Head Coach from 2012 to 2016, compiling the most wins in program history over a four-year span with 70 victories. Barbosa has also served as the Associate Head Coach at Stone Bridge School from 2005 to 2008. During that time, the program recorded the three winningest seasons in school history, earned the school's only two 20-win seasons, and won the first state championship in school history.
Along with his high school coaching experience, he's also spent time as a nationally recognized AAU and shoe circuit programs, including Boo Williams (Nike) and Team Loaded 757 (Adidas). During his time on the AAU circuit, he helped develop more than 100 players who went on to compete at the collegiate level.
