ATCHISON COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident just before noon Thursday in Atchison County.
A Kia Soul driven by Lisbeth Alvarenga-Mendoza, 20, Lawrence, was eastbound in the 1300 Block of U.S. 59 in the outside lane, according to Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson.
The driver was forced to take evasive action when an eastbound semi truck that was changing to the outside lane caused the Kia to leave the roadway and then strike a pole.
The impact caused the vehicle to land on its side.
EMS transported Alvarenga-Mendoza to Amberwell Hospital. A private vehicle transported a 21-year-old female passenger, also from Lawrence to Amberwell. Police reported no additional details.
