Doris Lucille Hinkle, 91, of King City, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Countryside Village in King City.
Doris was born on March 10, 1934 in Bolckow, Missouri to Emil L. and Grace L. (Smith) Smothers. She grew up in the Bolckow area and graduated from Clarksdale High School. On October 17, 1954, she was united in marriage to Robert Martin Rainey in St. Joseph, Missouri. He preceded her in death on December 25, 2003. Together they had five children: Bruce, Retha, Shiela, Martin, and Gina. Doris worked at the dime store in King City, a telephone operator, and a clerk at King City Lumber. After Robert passed away, she was united in marriage to Donald Hinkle on October 15, 2006 at the King City Baptist Church.
Doris enjoyed attending her church, traveling, going camping with Don, gardening, quilting, and line dancing. Her and Don could also play a mean game of cards.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Grace Smothers; husband, Robert Rainey; children, Bruce Rainey and Gina Rainey; and siblings, Evelyn Noland, Gerald Smothers, and Arvin Smothers. She is survived by her husband, Donald Hinkle; daughters, Retha Richardson and husband Cornel, and Shiela Howe and husband Phillip; son, Martin Rainey and wife Angie; stepchildren, Ron Hinkle and wife Nancy, Rhonda Whorton and husband Mitchell, and Rose Ewen and husband Tony; brother, Ronald Smothers; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Friday, September 26, 2025 at Roberson Funeral Home, 101 Prospect King City, MO 64463. A visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Berlin Cemetery in Berlin, Missouri. Memorials and contributions are suggested to the King City Baptist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
