Bethany, MO: Gary Cantrell, 71, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025. Born on July 29, 1953, Gary was a man with a heart as big as the open road and a soul that thrived in the great outdoors. He was known for his generosity, quick wit, and unwavering love for his family, nature, music, and a cold Busch Light shared with good company.
Gary never met a stranger. His kindness and humor made everyone feel like an old friend, and he brought light and laughter wherever he went. Whether he was casting a line into the water, telling hunting tales, or cruising down the highway with music turned up, Gary lived life fully and freely.
He spent many cherished years as a long-haul truck driver, traveling the country alongside his beloved wife and best friend, Charlotte. Married on June 29, 1978, the two were inseparable, sharing a lifetime of adventures, hard work, and love that stood the test of time.
Gary was the proud father of two sons: his biological son, Christopher (Laura), and his adopted son, Russ, affectionately known as J.R. He loved both deeply and equally. He was also a devoted grandfather, finding great joy in the lives of his grandchildren: Alyssa Cordrey, Devin Cordrey, Ashlynn Cordrey, Kendal Hawkins, and Shanyle Anteau.
A man of many passions, Gary adored his Yorkies, had a lifelong love affair with classic cars and big trucks, and found meaning in life’s simple pleasures—singing along to a favorite song, watching the sun rise over a quiet lake, or cracking a well-timed joke just to see someone smile.
Gary is survived by his sons Christopher and Russ; daughter-in-law, Laura; grandchildren, Alyssa, Devin, and Ashlynn Cordrey, Kendal Hawkins, and Shanyle Anteau; his siblings Carla (Dave) Cousino, Robert (Julie) Cantrell, Ron Cantrell, Tim Cantrell, Ricky Cantrell, Garey (Brenda) Cantrell, Ken (Marilyn) Cantrell, and George (Shirley) Cantrell;
He was preceded in death by his brother Michael Cantrell; his sister Beth Helberg and her husband Richard; and his loving parents, Carl and Novella Cantrell.
He will be missed beyond words by all who had the privilege of knowing him. But in every story told, every laugh shared, and every country road driven with the windows down, his spirit will live on.
Gary has been cremated under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. No services are scheduled. Online condolences may be left at www.robersonfuneralhome.com.
