Ronald Lee Shaffer 1953 - 2024

Ronald Lee Shaffer, 71, of Atchison, KS, passed away peacefully at his home, Saturday, November 30th, 2024.

Ron was born on March 12, 1953 in Horton, KS, the son of Robert Lee and Reba Mae (Braden) Shaffer. He was raised in Horton, KS until the age of eleven, then his family moved to Mercier, KS, a few miles northwest of Horton. He graduated from Horton High School in 1971.

He worked at Wilde Tool in Hiawatha as a young man after high school and would soon be employed by Midwest Solvents in Atchison, were he worked for 49 years until his recent retirement. He was known to be a very hard worker and friendly to all who came in contact with him. He enjoyed working and at 71, only retired due to health reasons.

On August 24, 1974, he married the love of his life Miss Gerriann Baker of Whiting, KS at the Whiting Methodist Church. Together, they enjoyed 50 years of loving marriage. From this union, they had two children, Jason Lee Shaffer of rural Atchison, and Kristy (Shaffer) Burg, of rural Lancaster.

Ron not only enjoyed working at his job, but at home as well taking great care of his house and property. He enjoyed woodworking, stone and masonry work, welding, yard work, working with metal and auto/boat repair. He was very mechanical and could fix just about anything.

He loved fishing, stargazing with a great knowledge of the solar system, and going on long walks with his wife. He took great pride in showing not only his children and grandchildren how to make things, but any child that wanted to learn. He helped numerous family members throughout his life repairing and refurbishing whatever someone needed help with. He took great care of his aging parents and his wife’s parents doing any and all things asked and never accepting monetary offerings. He enjoyed helping people.

Ron is survived by his wife, Gerriann. Additional survivors include his two children, Jason (Brooke) Shaffer, and Kristy (Joe) Burg. His grandchildren, Joseph Vincent, Josie, Robert and Lucas Burg, step-granddaughter Alexis (Kevan) Birkinsha, and step great-grandchildren, Lincoln & Adeline Birkinsha. He is survived by his sibling, Denise (Delbert) Pottorff, Jodi (Mike) Butner, Steve (Debbie) Shaffer, Kim (Mike Baugh) Lieneman, Brad (Cindy) Shaffer, and Jamie Shaffer. He is survived by his mother-in-law, Edna Baker, in-laws Marilyn (Steve) Banaka, Debbie (Rod) Deffenbaugh, Rick (Kathy) Baker, Mike (Paula) Baker, and Kathy (Guy) Galley, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Gerald Baker.

A visitation with the family will be held 6pm-8pm, Friday, December 6, 2024, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home.
