Tuesday at 3 p.m. central was the deadline for all NFL teams to set their 53-man roster, as the NFL regular season opens a week from this Thursday.
The Kansas City Chiefs, like every other team, had to make some tough decisions. Those waived by the Chiefs include corner Dicaprio Bootle, along with safeties Zayne Anderson and Devon Key. Receivers Daurice Fountain, Josh Gordon and Cornell Powell were all vested veterans who were cut.
Linebacker Elijah Lee is listed as a player who’s been cut, but he’s expected to be added back once tight end Blake Bell is put on injured reserve.
Tight end Matt Bushman was waived with an injury designation.
In other roster news, Chiefs coach Andy Reid revealed Tuesday that linebacker Leo Chenal is in concussion protocol and defensive end Frank Clark has been absent from practice this week due to injury.
Teams will know by 11 a.m. central Wednesday if they are awarded any players off of waivers.
At that time, teams can start putting together their 16-member practice squads.
The Chiefs kept nine of their 10 rookies on the active roster. The only rookie to not make the roster was corner Nazeeh Johnson. Running back Ronald Jones "played his way" onto the roster, according to coach Reid.
The roster can be viewed here.
The Chiefs open the regular season on Sunday, Sept. 11 at Arizona. Kickoff is set for 3:25 central. Coverage will start at 2 on KFEQ Radio (680, 95.3) and Q Country 92.7 FM in St. Joseph.
