The St. Joseph Mustangs got behind early and couldn’t recover in a 4-2 loss to the Des Moines Peak Prospects on Wednesday afternoon in Des Moines.

The Mustangs fell behind 4-0 after three innings and scored two runs in the top of the seventh, but never got closer.

St. Joseph was held to just five hits, but Savannah alum Noah Bodenhausen went 3-for-4 in the game with an RBI. Pitcher Mason Holton took the loss in four innings, striking out five and allowing four earned runs.

St. Joseph is now 26-11 on the season. They’re back home Thursday to host Clarinda in a critical MINK League North Division battle. First pitch at Phil Welch Stadium is set for 7 p.m.

Clarinda is 24-10 in league play. St. Joseph is 22-11. The Mustangs trail Clarinda for the North Division lead by a game-and-a-half.

The As and Mustangs have already played five times this season and St. Joseph is 3-2 in those games. The As beat the Mustangs in Clarinda this past Monday in the most recent meeting, 8-3.
