Posted Aug 01, 2024 9:02 PM

Donald R. Vollintine, 86, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away on July 30, 2024. Don was born on July 20, 1938, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Marshall and Mary (Shearin) Vollintine.

He married Carole (Courtney) Vollintine on August 7, 1964, in St. Joseph, MO. They were married for nearly 60 wonderful years.

Don was a devoted member of Ashland United Methodist Church. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas Western University (University of Texas, El Paso). Don worked at the Quaker Oats Company for 33 years. After his retirement, he and Carole enjoyed traveling, spending many winters in Florida.

Don’s love for basketball was evident throughout his life. He played from high school well into his late 60’s, including teams at Central High School, St. Joseph Junior College, Texas Western (UTEP), and various senior teams. He also played on local fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball teams. Don cherished listening to his children and grandchildren playing dominos and loved intervening in any “cheating” that might occur. Family gatherings in Florida created lasting memories that will be remembered with love.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Marshall and Mary Vollintine; brother, Benny Vollintine; and sister, Mary Anne Poores.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Carole; brother, James R. (Susan) Vollintine; daughters, Julia (Ron) Heckman, Jill (Scott) Hamerle, and Jennifer Richardson; grandchildren: Josh (Julie) Heckman, Bret (Evan) Dillman, Bethany (Steve) Juhl, Nick (Amanda) Myers, Adam (Margaret) Slater, Zach Slater, Courtney (Nathan) Roberts, Jake Hamerle, and Emilyn Richardson. Don also leaves behind 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
