SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a  suspect for alleged attempted murder. 

On Sunday, police responded to a call for service in the 1200 Block of SW Polk Street, according to Lt. Jerry Monasmith. On arrival, officers discovered the incident was the result of a previous Aggravated Battery, which had taken place at a separate location.

The victim sustained non life-threatening injuries. Police identified the suspect after their investigation and took 51-year-old John Scott of Topeka into custody without incident.

He is being held on requested charges of Attempted 2nd Degree Murder and City Warrants, according to Monasmith. Scott has previous convictions for aggravated assault, aggravated intimidation of a witness and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.
