The Kansas City Royals selected three players on the first day of the MLB Draft Sunday night.
With the eighth overall pick in the first round, the Royals selected Blake Mitchell, a left-handed hitting catcher from Sinton High School in Texas.
Mitchell was named the Gatorade Texas Player of the Year each of the last two seasons and is committed to LSU.
In the second round, the Royals selected right-handed pitcher Blake Wolters out of Mahomet-Seymour High School in Illinois. Wolters recorded a 0.43 ERA this past season in 49 innings. He allowed just 13 hits and recorded 106 strikeouts.
And with the 66th overall pick, the Royals selected left-handed outfielder Carson Roccaforte out of Louisiana-Lafayette.
Roccaforte batted .318 this past season and .325 in his three-year college career. The MLB Draft will resumes Monday at 1:00 p.m. CT with rounds 3-10 on MLB.com.
