Gerald Leroy Giles, who was known by most as Oscar, died January 19, 2025, at his home in Atchison, KS, at the age of 90.
A service to remember Oscar will be on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. The family will have a visitation for one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Cremation care by the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.
He was born on March 30, 1934, in Atchison, KS, the son of Oscar Giles and Louise (Arensberg) Giles. He attended Atchison schools and played football at Atchison High School; he graduated in 1952.
Oscar worked as Captain on the B shift for the Atchison Fire Dept. for over thirty years, retiring in 1984. He was a self-employed contractor for sixty years, working on his days off and then after retiring from the department. Oscar loved to fish any time he could.
He married Patricia J. (Godding) on June 8, 1984, in Troy, KS. She survives of the home. He is also survived by daughters, Madison (Trey) Miller, Debbie Saur; Son, Tim (Sue) Giles; stepsons, Brian (Charity) Schmidt, David (Amy) Schmidt; grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his son, Charles “Chuck” Giles, Daughter, Rebecca Giles Armontrout; brother, William and CC Giles; sisters, Betty (Cliff) Reeves, Marie (Herman) Schmelding.
