A St. Joseph man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his involvment in a deadly hit and run crash in Kansas City in 2024.

44 year old Brian Zug was sentenced Friday to 10 years after hitting and killing a bicyclist in January 2024.  The crash happened around 2 a.m. on January 14th, 2024, near 81st Terrace and North Oak Trafficway in Kansas City.  Zug was driving a silver Ford F-150 southbound on North Oak when he hit the cyclist near the intersection of 82nd Street and North Oak.

Zug told detectives he had been at the Kansas City Chiefs game all day where he consumed multiple alcoholic drinks.  He and his passenger left the game and went to a bar in the Northland where they consumed additional alcoholic beverages.  After leaving the bar they were traveling back to their hotel for the night when the crash occurred.

Zug pleaded guilty in June to a Class B felony DWI causing the death of another person while a Class D felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death was dismissed.  Zug will serve 10 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections
