A suspect has been taken into custody after an hours-long standoff in St. Joseph.
Several law enforcement officers surrounded a St. Joseph residence after a man barricaded himself inside and shot at officers responding to the scene.
The St. Joseph Police Department reports the incident at 709 South 16th began in the early morning hours of Sunday when officers responded to a disturbance involving a firearm. Officers evacuated several residents. Police say the suspect, described by police as a white male 50 years old, barricaded himself inside and fired multiple rounds in the area of responding officers.
The suspect also fired several rounds at the Special Response Team that arrived on the scene. Police say the SRT used several tactical methods to coax the man out before he surrendered.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol Tactical Unit came to the scene to relieve the St. Joseph SRT after hours on the scene.
