The St. Joseph Mustangs used a four-run inning to propel themselves to a second straight win to start the season, defeating the Chillicothe Mudcats 6-3 on Friday at Phil Welch Stadium.

The Mudcats would take an early two run lead in the first inning, one run coming unearned after a throwing error by Mustangs third baseman Jordan Black.

The Mustangs would answer in the fourth inning when right fielder Jeter Mauzey hit his first home run of the season, but the Mudcats would extend their lead an inning later with a home run of their own, taking a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth.

St. Joseph would take the lead for good in the bottom half of the inning. A single from Black would score Savannah alum Truman Bodenhausen. Two at bats later, a sacrifice fly from Mauzey would score Black to tie the game.

First baseman Jackson Glueck would give the Mustangs the lead, a single to left field scoring Carson Schrack and Lafayette alum Ike Book. St. Joseph would add one more insurance run in the bottom of the eighth.

Diego Santiago pitched four solid innings for the Mustangs, striking out five and giving up just two runs, one unearned. St. Joseph Christian alum Camden Lutz pitched one inning of relief, giving up just the home run. East Buchanan alum Bronco Whitt also had one scoreless inning out of the bullpen, striking out one.
