A 5K run this weekend will benefit the St. Joseph Junior League and give runners a chance to tune-up before the fall road race season begins.

The Pony Express Run will be held Saturday, beginning at 9am. It begins and ends at the Pony Express Museum.

Terra James with the Junior League says you don’t have to show up to participate. Runners can complete their own virtual race and they don’t necessarily have to run.

“However you want to do it, swimming, biking, hiking, running, kind of up to you,” James says with a chuckle, speaking to Sam Starr on K-JO.

The United Way is a partner in the race this year.

James says the Pony Express Run comes during the “race window”.

“The end of September, beginning of October, is when runners typically start preparing for half-marathons and full marathons,” according to James. “So, it’s called the race window. It makes for great weather and it makes for a lot of runners coming out and we have a good turnout and people can really motivate and support one another.”

The St. Joseph Junior League sponsors the Pony Express Run each year as a fundraiser on the last Saturday of September. This year, the United Way is partnering with the Junior League.
