Larry Matt Jr. 74, of St. Joseph passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at a local hospital.
He was born on September 7, 1949 in St. Joseph to the late Lawrence and Gertrude (Schellhorn) Matt.
Larry met his partner of 48 years, Andy Halamar, in 1975 and he survives him of the home.
Together, Larry and Andy spent their careers working together and the last thirty-four years as co-owners of the Cabbage Roll Restaurant.
Larry enjoyed going to casinos, helping Andy grow his Mickey Mouse 7,000 piece collection, watching old TV shows and singing in the kitchen. He had life long memories of traveling, cruises and epic family vacations and hosting family gatherings and holiday celebrations. He enjoyed feeding all of his family and friends. Larry was a great sport while supporting Andy with his fundraisers and always participated as the auctioneer.
Addition to his parents, Mr. Matt was preceded in death by his brother; Charles Matt, brother-in-law: Bill Strain, nephews; Zac Strain and Chance Phillips, sister-in-law; Linda Halamar, and mother-in-law; Emma Halamar.
Larry is also survived by his sister; Salli Strain, brother; Mike (Debbie) Matt, sister-in-law Heide (Richard) Phillips, brother-in-law: Frank (DeAnna) Halamar, nieces; Nicole (Doug) Snook, Samantha (Jared) Atkins, Maitland Phillips, Heather (Dan) Huston, Niki (Eric) Dickens, nephews: Wyatt Phillips, and A.J. (Joann) Halamar, great-nieces; Ruby Snook, Brooklyn and Taylor Dickens, and Salacia Loe, great nephew Bacchus Loe.
The family will receive friends at the vistitation from 2:00 - 4:00 PM. Followed by A Celebration of Life at 4:00 PM, Sunday, December 10th at the Zion United Church of Christ at 816 Faraon Street, St Joseph. Bill Luce Officiating. Following the service, a Pot Luck Dinner will be held.
